Tournament officials have labelled the 2009 McDonald’s Kanga Cup a “great success” after the week long youth football tournament culminated with finals today across the territory.

Kofi Danning has been playing alongside John Aloisi during Sydney FC’s preseason and next week is likely to join the Australian Young Socceroos team on a tour of Argentina as an under-20 World Cup warm-up.

In what could soon become a family tradition, nine-year old Isaiah Potts took out the under-11 boys plate fair play award at the Kanga Cup Awards at the University of Canberra last night.

The under-10 and under-11 divisions are the faster growing areas of the Kanga Cup tournament and this year both those groups are leading the way introducing players to Football Federation Australia’s new structure.

Some of this year’s Kanga Cup competitors weren’t even born when volunteers Margot Prout and Peter Burrows began their involvement with the competition.

Socceroo Mark Schwarzer is an inspiration for many at the Kanga Cup.
