Opening Ceremony

The spectactular Opening Ceremony will be held on Sunday 6 July, 2008 at the AIS Arena to kick off a week of football in the Nation's Capital

2007 saw The Canberra School of Bollywood Dancing, Namadgi Redbacks Marching Band and Wiradjuri Echoes entertain the crowds during the ceremony and 2008's Opening Ceremony is set to be just as exciting!

The ceremony will begin at 4pm on Sunday July 6 at the AIS Arena. Teams are asked to assemble the south side of the Arena on Battye St at 3pm. The public are to enter the Arena through the AIS Sports Visitors Centre and get ready to cheer on the teams as they march into the Arena. The teams march past will open the ceremony before an official welcome by the Ngunnawal people and ACT Chief Minister Jon Stanhope. FM104.7's Cam Sullings will be hosting the Ceremony and will ensure the crowd are involved.

 

 

Opening Ceremony at AIS Arena

3pm Teams assemble at South Side of Arena, public to enter through AIS Sports Visitors Centre

4pm March past of Competing teams and officials

4:30pm Official Welcome, reading of participant oath and opening

5pm Managers leave for Officials Meeting

6pm Ceremony Ends

NB: All times are Australian Eastern Standard Time

Please bring club/team banners and mascots to the opening ceremony. The more colour the better the atmosphere.

The AIS Arena has been made available to the McDonald's Kanga Cup, by the Australian Sports Commision.

Referees Briefing Sunday 6th July

The Referees briefing will be held at the AIS Gold Room from 1pm.

Officials Meeting Sunday 6th July

The Coaches and Managers meeting will be held at the AIS Gold Room on Sunday 6th July at 5pm. Managers are asked to leave the Opening Ceremony after the Offical Opening to attend the Officials Meeting. It is essential that a representative of each team is present as relevant information is forwarded and is a time for questions. Team kit bags will be distributed at the conclusion of this meeting.

Cultural / Social Progam
As well as the various sightseeing opportunities available in Canberra, some social activities for both players and officials are planned during the week.

Meet a Mate Host Night - Monday 7th July

This is the night where visiting teams are 'buddied' up to local teams, who will host an evening involving a meal and activity.

Moove to the Groove Disco - Tuesday 8th July

Moove to the Groove will allow participants to have a fun night out together and enjoy the atmosphere of being together in a non-competitive environment. The second Moove to the Groove Kanga Cup disco will take place at the AIS Arena. Two discos will be taking place in the Arena for U11-13's and U14-16's (no U17-18 competitors are allowed to take part). The Disco will start at 7pm, with teams entering the Arena through the AIS Sports Visitors Centre. Canberra Milk - suppliers of Moove flavoured milk will be providing many prizes for various fun competitions.

Both Disco's commence at 7pm and conclude at 10pm.
All players MUST wear their official ID to obtain entry. No entry after 8pm. No passouts. No one can leave until after 9pm.

Coaches Seminar - Tuesday 8th July

While the teams are dancing, coaches are invited to attend a FREE practical seminar at the AIS Indoor Pitch with Alex Prophet of Cambrian Academy Sports Tours, former youth coach at the Liverpool Academy. The seminar is for coaches willing to learn about his experiences and Alex will take coaches through a training session while their players dance at the disco. The theme of the seminar is "Player Movement" and the Capital Football Academy under 14's girl's team will be there to demonstrate skills.

The seminar will take place from 7:30-9pm .

Movie Night - Wednesday 9th July

Hoyts Belconnen in the Westfield Shopping Centre in Belconnen is hosting the Movie Night. By showing your McDonald's Kanga Cup ID Pass you can see a movie for $9. Movies and screening times are below

Awards Ceremony - 12 noon Friday 11th July

All participating teams are welcome to attend the McDonald's Kanga Cup Awards Ceremony on Friday 11th July at the Kanga Hub, Northbourne Ave, Lyneham.

This event epitomises the spirit of the Kanga Cup, where Player of the Tournament and Fair Play awards will be presented. It is expected that teams and players that have been nominated for awards are present. The ceremony will serve as an official farewell for visiting teams and a good luck for those teams still to play in their Final.

Kanga Cup Finals

The Finals for the Kanga Cup will be held at Tuggeranong Enclosed (Greenway) and McKellar Soccer Centre on Thursday from 5pm and Friday from 2pm. A timetable of the finals is available in the draws page.
