Interstate Teams - What you need to know

The McDonald's Kanga Cup is a youth based tournament (Under 10-18) that takes traditionally every July in Canberra. For 2008, the event will take place from July 6 to July 11. The first Kanga Cup took place in 1991, so 2008 will be the 18th (XVIII) Kanga Cup.

Why Play? Click here for more reasons

· Competition is varied and a challenge. Club, school and district teams choose to come from WA, SA, Queensland, to NSW districts such as Dubbo and Griffith to take part. This IS the Australasian Junior Club Championship. On average 200 teams have taken part each year in the 'Kanga' since 2002.

· The Kanga Cup is for every teenage boy and girl that play's football.

· Cup (division one standard) AND Plate (division two/three standard) competitions will take place if there is a minimum of eight teams entered in an age group. A minimum of four games are guaranteed.

· Facilities. Although we have suffered from an existing drought, Canberra's grounds and facilities are of high standard and are the envy of other Australian states. Games are generally based in North Canberra.

· Organisation. The tournament has a good reputation of being smoothly run and this comes with experience (many lessons have been learnt in 15 years. Draws are fair and equitable. There will be a public draw of participating teams on June 14. Yes a team may find a variety of ground sizes but consideration is given to the age of your team, where you are from etc.

· Social Development. Nothing can replicate the team bonding and learning as a group or individual when one is out of their comfort zone, especially for a week. The opportunities to learn about themselves and others abound in the 'melting pot' of such a tournament.

· Cultural Development. From the Opening Ceremony, Meet & Greet Night, Disco, Gala Awards and the Finals, your team will have many opportunities to mix with the local football community and other visiting teams. Canberra also has many free national institutions to keep your player's busy away from the field.

Internationally there is strong interest from teams from New Zealand, Solomon Islands, South Korea and the Philippines.
