Interstate Teams - What you need to know The McDonald's Kanga Cup is a youth based tournament (Under 10-18) that takes traditionally every July in Canberra. For 2008, the event will take place from July 6 to July 11. The first Kanga Cup took place in 1991, so 2008 will be the 18th (XVIII) Kanga Cup. teams choose to come from WA, SA, Queensland, to NSW districts such as
Dubbo and Griffith to take part. This IS the Australasian
Junior Club Championship. On average 200 teams
have taken part each year in the 'Kanga' since 2002. · The Kanga Cup is for every teenage boy and girl that play's
football. · Cup
(division one standard) AND Plate
(division two/three standard) competitions will take place
if there is a minimum of eight teams entered in an age group. A minimum
of four games are guaranteed. · Facilities. Although we
have suffered from an existing drought, Canberra's grounds and facilities
are of high standard and are the envy of other Australian states. Games
are generally based in North Canberra. · Organisation. The tournament
has a good reputation of being smoothly run and this comes with experience
(many lessons have been learnt in 15 years. Draws are fair and equitable.
There will be a public draw of participating teams on June 14. Yes a team
may find a variety of ground sizes but consideration is given to the age
of your team, where you are from etc. · Social Development. Nothing
can replicate the team bonding and learning as a group or individual when
one is out of their comfort zone, especially for a week. The opportunities
to learn about themselves and others abound in the 'melting pot' of such
a tournament. · Cultural Development. From the Opening Ceremony, Meet & Greet Night, Disco, Gala Awards and the Finals, your team will have many opportunities to mix with the local football community and other visiting teams. Canberra also has many free national institutions to keep your player's busy away from the field. Internationally there is strong interest from teams from New Zealand, Solomon Islands, South Korea and the Philippines.

Fees This pays for facilities, grounds, cleaning, referees etc. $70- per registered player and officials (minimum of 16 people) Incentive Discounts of $100- for each category: Teams receive a kit bag with an official match ball, Kanga Cup merchandise plus more. Sanction Requirements Entry to the McDonald's Kanga Cup is only available to an affiliated club of a FFA state member. All interstate teams must include a letter of sanction from their State with their paperwork, that will also ensure that they are covered by the state's insurance scheme.
