About the Kanga Cup
The McDonald’s Kanga Cup is the most prestigious youth football tournament in Australia, is the largest of its kind in the southern hemisphere and one of the biggest tournaments in the world. Winning a McDonald’s Kanga Cup is the most coveted prize in youth football. The tournament is open to club, school, association or community based teams that are part of the International Football Family. It caters for male and female youth ranging from 9 years to 18 years of age. The McDonald’s Kanga Cup is hosted by Capital Football and sanctioned by Football Federation of Australia and the Asian Football Confederation.
The McDonald’s Kanga Cup provides an opportunity for participants to meet players from all over Australia as well as the world. Past participants have been from Australia, Chinese Taipei, Denmark, England, East Timor, Fiji, Georgia, India, Indonesia, Italy, New Zealand, People’s Republic of China, Russia, South Africa, South Korea, the United States and others. Social and cultural exchange is encouraged between competitors throughout the tournament, with a wide range of social activities available for participants and officials making the tournament a “cultural festival of football”.

Philosophy
The philosophy of the McDonald’s Kanga Cup is “Uniting the Youth of the World through Football”. This philosophy lends itself to the ceremonial and social aspects of the tournament. Each competition also has a Fair Play Award given to the team that plays with this spirit. Referees award the points for this after each game and some points are also awarded on the behaviour of the supporters.
When and Where
The 2010 McDonald’s Kanga Cup will be played over five days, from 4-7 July. The Opening Ceremony will take place on Sunday 4 July (there are no games on this day).The McDonald’s Kanga Cup is held in Canberra, Australia’s capital - an ideal location. The city and surrounding region is packed with things to see and do, and has magnificent sporting facilities.

Matches
The 2010 McDonald’s Kanga Cup will be using FFA’s Small Sided Games rules for U10 and U11’s. More information can be found on the Optus Small-Sided Football website.
All teams play a minimum of FIVE matches in the preliminary rounds, from Monday 5 July through to Wednesday 7 July. Second phase matches(quarters and semis) are played from Wednesday (depending on team nominations). Grand Finals will take place on Friday July 9.
Competitions
Cup Competition
High performing premier or division one teams or regional representative teams
Plate Competition
Lower performing premier or division one teams and high performing division two teams
Shield Competition
Club teams who are not ready to compete at the Cup or Trophy levels, but are interested in participating in a competitive international tournament
A minimum of eight teams in a competition is required for separate Cup and Plate competitions to take place. With less than 8 teams in an age group, only the Cup Competition will be held
Venues
The McDonald’s Kanga Cup is played on grassed or artificial outdoor pitches. Although we have suffered from an existing drought, Canberra’s grounds and facilities are of high standard. A team may find a variety of ground sizes as consideration is given to the age of your team. For the preliminary rounds cluster venues around Canberra are predominantly used. Finals are played at enclosed fields with lights and grandstands.

Each team participating in the 2010 McDonald’s Kanga Cup will receive as part of their team equipment:

- One McDonald’s Kanga Cup Souvenir Match Ball
- McDonald’s Kanga Cup Souvenir (one per player, coach and manager)
- Official Tournament Programs (one per player, coach and manager)
- Participation ID band (one per player, coach and manager)
- Tournament Match Cards
Trophies
Trophies are awarded to the winner in each competition. Each team that participates in a Final is awarded with Kanga Cup medallions (18 per team). A Fair Play Trophy is awarded to one team in each age group competition. Zero to five points are awarded after each game by the referees for the behavior of players, officials AND spectators. There is also a Player of the Tournament Award for each age group competition, voted on a 3-2-1 basis by the referee at the conclusion of each game. These votes are confidential and potential winners will be notified prior to the Awards Ceremony. All awards will be presented at the Awards Ceremony at the Kanga Expo on Thursday afternoon.
